Vanessa van ‘t Hoogt (b. 1991) is an art historian and educator and part of SYB Circles since 2019. She develops and teaches various courses at the University of Groningen (Faculty of Arts and Medical Faculty) and at Minerva Art Academy, Groningen. All courses aim to integrate theory and practice. She is currently doing her PhD-research at the University of Groningen in the NWO project Curious Hands. Moving Making to the Core of Education. In this PhD-project she researches the potentially powerful effects of ‘making something with your own hands’ by investigating the role of educational workshops in teaching and learning making.

Liza Voetman (b. 1992) works as an art critic, writer, researcher and teacher. Her current research focuses on the changing conditions of production within the context of the academy and the fiction of independence. Liza has been part of SYB Circles since 2019.

In her work, visual artist Josje Hattink (b. 1990) is often concerned with our perception and interpretation of landscapes. At a time when nature is a major topic in the media and politics, she guides her audience through case studies of human-made landscapes and places. In this way, she questions the status quo of our “natural” environment. Josje has been part of SYB Circles since 2019.

Alina Lupu was born and raised in Romania and works as a writer and artist in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Rietveld Academie in 2016. Since then she has worked for Deliveroo, Helpling, Foodora, Uber, Thuisbezorgd, Hanze Groningen, Willem de Kooning Academy, de Taart van m’n Tante and Poké Perfect Amsterdam. Her pension will eventually total just over 2 euros a month. Her work has been shown at: W139, Amsterdam; Onomatopee, Eindhoven; Hotel Maria Kapel, Hoorn; Drugo More, Rijeka; Rheum Room, Basel; European Lab, Lyon; Diskurs, Giessen; Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Berlin, and Goethe Institut, Bucharest. Alina Lupu is a general board member of Platform BK, an organization that researches the role of art in society and takes action for a better art policy, and starting September 2022, she’s a student of the Master Photography and Society at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague.

Anika Mariam Ahmed (b. 1988, Dhaka, Bangladesh) is a painter living in Groningen, the Netherlands. Her work captures the poetry in everyday life and celebrates the sensual, non-verbal qualities of paint. She teaches a course on difference and equality in the field of arts at the Frank Mohr Institute and is part of SYB since 2020.
