Finissage & Poetry Reading Selma Selman, with Astrit Ismaili and Mikołaj Sobczak

Kunsthuis Syb would like to invite you to celebrate the last weekend of Selma Selman’s exhibition 600 Years of Migrant Mothers, during Museumnacht FRL. For this occasion Selma invites you to an intimate gathering with readings of poetry and texts, by herself and by artists Astrit Ismaili, and Mikołaj Sobczak. Astrit will read a piece inspired from their song titled Miss Kosovo. Selma will recite an excerpt from her visual research for 600 Years of Migrant Mothers, and Mikołaj will close the reading with a selection of texts about alchemy and his anti-fascist manifesto. The readings take place through the exhibition.

Groningen-based artist Klaudija Ylaite will host the bar of sYB and prepare a special drink and mocktail to convivially celebrate the end of the exhibition.

16.30 - 17.30 Poetry readings by Astrit Ismaili, Selma Selman, & Mikołaj Sobczak
17.30 - 20.00 Drinks by Klaudija Ylaite & last chance to see the exhibition.

Astrit Ismaili’s practice explores the transformational potential of bodies and spaces. Their work proposes bodies that consist of imaginary and material realities, using alter egos, body extensions and wearable music instruments to embody different possibilities for becoming. Their research is based around ‘Creative Under Limitation’, looking into fictional, historical, scientific or personal references that deal with physical or socio-political limitations by using creativity as a tool. This material is embodied in performance, video, sound, drawing and sculpture.

Mikołaj Sobczak is a Düsseldorf- and Warsaw-based artist working in painting, video, and performance. Rooted in queer activism and alternative historiographies, his practice emerges from collaborations with historians and theorists. He studied in Warsaw, Berlin, and Münster, and was a resident at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam (2021–2023) and Art Explora, Paris (2023–2024). Sobczak has exhibited internationally, with works held in LACMA, Moderna Museet, and Kunstsammlung NRW. He is a recipient of the Villa Romana Prize 2026.

Klaudija Ylaite is a Lithuanian artist who lives and works in Groningen (NL). Her practice spans performance, ritual, and cultural analysis, investigating how embodied knowledge and affective states act as critical tools for dealing with the ecological and spiritual conditions of our time. She graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from Minerva Academy, and recently completed a research MA in Arts & Culture at the University of Groningen.
